Founding Director, Design BY QU
Born in the UK, Hayley studied Architecture at Brighton University. She has international experience in seven countries across three continents, working for award-winning International design firm in Singapore and Bangkok.
Drawing on these experiences, Hayley has established a global network to deliver the best in every aspect of design from Interior Architecture, Planning, Furniture and Finishing, to branding, graphics, signage, artwork and accessories.
‘I’ve been lucky enough to spend my career living and designing across three continents, taking lessons from every hotel, spa, museum, temple and church I have worked on or walked through, from every street walked down and every person I’ve met.”
“I take inspiration from the rich history and iconic architecture of London and New York, arguably the world’s most eclectic cities, to the high-end luxury of Singapore and Macau and to the rich, vibrant colours of Thailand and India.”
From concept to completion Design BY QU combines an international team of designers and collaborators delivering to you the highest quality design.
Kris represents what it is to be structured and passionate in the fickle creative world – a collaborative and an innovative thinker – he has shaped dozens of hotels, resorts and international design initiatives throughout his career. It is his passion to find new approaches and to pioneer new generations of designers to conceive the mission envisioned by the team at DBQ. Kris will collaborate within both Interiors and Architectural disciplines.
Prior to Design BY QU, Kris has led teams within HBA Singapore, HBA Hong Kong and HBA Melbourne . Kris received his degree in Architecture, practiced in Singapore and has now completed design work for major hotel brands such as Hyatt, Starwood and Hilton.
Kris’s design agenda embodies an understanding of the core values that stretch across many disciplines, so it is fair to assume that there are no boundaries within projects he undertakes.
Born and educated in Melbourne, Sharon brings locality to the Design BY QU team. Her design career began in London working on high end residential and hospitality projects in London with David Collins Studio. Upon returning to Melbourne she has worked with many award winning architectural and design studios on iconic projects in Australia and across China.
Sharon’s unique work experience and passion involves sourcing luxurious custom materials and finishes, finding unique objects and art and developing bespoke furniture pieces which has involved collaboration with manufacturers, furniture makers, craftsmen & artists from all around the world.
Sharon brings to Australia a rare combination of Interior Architecture, Furniture Design and Decoration bridging a gap which often lacks within the local market. The opportunity to work on projects in countries with such differing cultures, landscapes, environments and history continue to inspire her work every day.
Kristian is an Interior Architect with a wonderful sense of scale and understanding of 3-dimension spaces – his design principles of rhythm and balance are the strength of his designs – a versatile designer that adopts to the needs of the project – he brings artistry to his work through his hand sketches and design concept presentations. Kristian started his design journey in Architecture and slowly transitioned his way to Interior Design allowing him a complete understanding of space planning and design with the greatest respect to volume.
He worked with Wilson and Associates in Singapore for 9 years prior to his move to Australia, working on a broad range of projects including hotels, resorts and private residences. Some of his works include hotels for JW Marriott, Ritz Carlton, Four Seasons, Sofitel and numbers of self operated hotels and private properties across Asia. In Australia, he has worked with HBA and Lombard and Jack on some major casinos and hotels. Within Design BY QU, Kristian brings a touch of art along with his incredible architectural expertise to the Interior Architecture team, front lining design and collaboration.
with combined experience in hospitality, high-end residential, retail design and architecture, and having lived and worked on three continents, the Design BY QU team has established a diverse portfolio of successful and award winning projects, globally.
We believe the ‘Craft’ hotel experience of the future is becoming more emotive and less quantifiable. Hotel design is becoming more about authenticity and craftsmanship. In the same way a craft whisky from Japan uses the finest wood and ingredients to create something unique and ground breaking outside of the traditional aged barrel; as Hotel designers, we must redefine the perception of luxury and a tell a story which feels personal to each and every guest. We think specialist F&B feeds into this theme and becomes a key element. We like to consider F&B as an almost deconstructed element of the hotel in order for the asset to offer multiple facets of investment and of customer appeal.
In order to provide a completely unique service to our clients combining the best in Hotel design, and F&B design, we have formed a wonderfully organic partnership with one of the best hospitality studios in Melbourne & Hong Kong. SED are behind some of the most successful restaurant designs in Melbourne including the Chin Chin refurbishment and my favourite, Mr Miyagi, and are also sharing the much loved Melbourne food scene in Hong Kong and NYC with projects including Tokyo Lima and Pici.
QU Eades offer a unique approach to design combining the specialist hotel knowledge of DBQ with the unique hospitality strategy and design of SED and offering this multi-faceted design approach all under one umbrella.
You can meet SED at www.samanthaeades.com or visit us at our integrated office in Collingwood!
We have a passionate global team made up of the incredible talents we have been fortunate enough to collaborate with in the past. We have design and documentation teams based in Singapore, Bangkok and of course Melbourne, and 3D renderers in Bangkok, India and Melbourne. Depending on the size of your project, we will find the right people to ensure we produce the best design and deliver on time, every time. All of our concepts are born, and projects led and coordinated from our Melbourne based team.

Design BY QU is always looking for talent!
Being excited by change is important. We work on a diverse range of projects across the Hospitality, Residential and retail sectors and we are on the hunt for people who want to be part of a design team who will re-invent and question what is currently deemed ‘on-trend’. Our projects take us across the globe from time to time so a thirst for discovering new culture, writing fresh concepts and telling our story through design is something our team members must be passionate about.
Our team is global. We have discovered talent all over the world from Singapore, Thailand, India, UK and Australia. Our designers will have great communication skills and be keen to design with and lead parts of our global team as well as working in close collaboration with our Melbourne team. They will ideally be fluent in Autocad, Revit, Sketch up, Photoshop and Indesign and will be responsible for leading every stage of design from concept – completion, and also be prepared to document in-house from time to time. Global and local experience is desirable as we all know different countries have different systems. Our ideal candidate will be patient and hard working with a keen eye for detail. Every piece of design leaving our office, and coming back in from our wider team needs to be checked for technical accuracy, and quality to ensure our high standards are met in terms of design and documentation.
